RECIPE BY: CHEF JOHN
Ingredients
For the Meat Sauce
2 tbsp olive oil
1 medium onion, finely chopped
3 cloves garlic, minced
1 lb ground beef
1 lb Italian sausage (mild or hot, casings removed)
1 can (28 oz) crushed tomatoes
2 tbsp tomato paste
1 can (15 oz) tomato sauce
½ cup red wine (optional)
2 tsp dried basil
1 tsp dried oregano
1 tsp sugar
Salt & black pepper to taste
For the Cheese Mixture
15 oz ricotta cheese
1 egg
½ cup grated parmesan
2 tbsp fresh parsley, chopped (or 1 tsp dried)
Pinch of salt & pepper
For the Layers
12 lasagna noodles (regular or oven-ready)
1 lb mozzarella cheese, shredded
Extra parmesan for topping
Step 1: Make the Meat Sauce
Heat olive oil in a large skillet or saucepan over medium heat. Add onion and cook until soft.
Stir in garlic, then add ground beef and sausage. Cook until browned, breaking up with a spoon.
Add crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, tomato sauce, and wine.
Stir in basil, oregano, sugar, salt, and pepper.
Simmer uncovered for 30–40 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sauce is rich and thick.
Grandeur Tip: The precision burners on your Grandeur cooktop help simmer sauces evenly, preventing hot spots and giving your sauce a slow-cooked depth of flavor.
Step 2: Mix the Cheese Layer
In a medium bowl, combine ricotta, egg, parmesan, parsley, salt, and pepper. Stir until smooth and creamy.
Step 3: Assemble the Lasagna
Preheat oven to 375°F.
Lightly oil a 9x13" baking dish.
Spread a thin layer of meat sauce on the bottom.
Add a layer of noodles, then spread ricotta mixture, sprinkle mozzarella, and spoon over more sauce.
Repeat layers (noodles → ricotta → mozzarella → sauce) until the dish is full, finishing with noodles, sauce, and a generous layer of mozzarella and parmesan.
Step 4: Bake
Cover with foil (tenting slightly so it doesn’t touch the cheese).
Bake 25 minutes covered, then remove foil and bake another 20–25 minutes until the cheese is golden and bubbling.
Let rest 10–15 minutes before slicing — this helps the layers set.
Grandeur Tip: Your Grandeur oven’s consistent heat ensures the top gets that irresistible golden crust without overcooking the inside.
Step 5: Serve & Enjoy
Cut into squares, serve with a simple green salad or garlic bread, and enjoy the layers of flavor in every bite.
